History of The Hartland Mansion
Built in the 1940s, the residence originally started off as two separate properties in the historic 6th Street District. Arvey Estate purchased the two homes in the 1970s with plans to join the two residences into one large home. However, the owner Lawrence Arvey fled the country before renovation plans were finished, facing a sentence of life in prison for sex crimes.
Grammy award winning gospel singer and former evangelical preacher Toni Hart purchased the property in 1980 for $190,000 but two separate fires in 1980 and 1981 leveled it. Hart and her family decided to rebuild the home using the same exterior design and floor plan as the original but enlarging the design. Hartland Mansion ended up tripling in size, and the restoration project took 7 years to complete.
Hart began renting out the mansion for weddings in the mid 1980s and even officiated many of them before she passed away in 2014.
Features of the Hartland Mansion
The mansion was primarily hand-decorated by Hart’s son Larry, who is now deceased (source). His eclectic style left a very unique impression on visitors.
Its ‘Gone With the Wind’ inspired staircase witnessed the presence of Elvis Presley (he often slept in one of the rooms), and the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Tony Bennett. From 70s onwards, the Grand Party Room with its indoor pool was hosting proms, weddings, bar mitzvahs and charity events. The coming decades saw stars such as Ginger Rogers, Michael Jackson and the shooting of movies such as ‘Casino’.
Some other famous celebrities said to have visited the original home from the 1940s to the 1970s include: Sammy Davis Jr, Liberace, Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor, Mae West, Esther Williams, Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietriech, Groucho Marx, Rosemary Clooney and Ronald Reagan.

I’ve been looking for a wedding venue and Jennifer was an amazing help! She booked our tour during a wedding’s set up and being able to see it done up left me in awe.
I remember coming here for my junior prom, but I just came back for my company holiday party. Overall it’s a great venue.
Had the pleasure of attending a celebration of life for my husband’s good friend at this venue. The hors d’oeuvres, buffet, dessert, coffee, music and drinks were superb!
